Help us raise funds to give "The Big O" the flight of his lifetime!

If you're reading this, welcome to the beginning of something special.. The ground floor of what will likely make a strong case for the best time of my Old Man's entire life.

If you are not already aware, 'The Big O' will be retiring this coming summer.... In fact, he's had a countdown on his iPhone for the past 7 months.

Here's the background:

Roughly 5 years ago, Dad and I went to Vintage Wings, at the Gatineau Airport. For those who don't know, Vintage Wings is a museum, based at the airport with an impressive collection of wartime aviation pieces (http://www.vintagewings.ca). More impressive is that they still fly a number of those aircraft. Our guide, a personal friend, Mr.. Robert Fleck, told us that for a 'small' donation to the museum you could go for a flight in one of the operational aircraft.

Dad's eye's lit up, his jaw dropped slightly, and he was short of words (not too often does that happen). I've had it in the back of my head since then, that I'd try to organize a flight in the P-51 Mustang for his retirement.

Here's the plan:

On August 6th of this coming summer there will be a 'lawn party' at my folks & neighbours place on the Big Rideau Lake (Invites haven't gone out as of yet!! don't worry). I intend on presenting my Dad with a retirement card that will include the names of everyone who decides to participate in the surprise. With the card, I will include a homemade 'Voucher' -- "Good For One Flight in P-51 Mustang". To capture the ride and his retirement we plan to purchase a hand carved wooden P-51 model complete with engraved details of his career and retirement date.

Here's the catch:

The donation for the flight in the Mustang isn't cheap. By the time things are all said and done, it will cost roughly $2500 to get him into the seat! However, here's the neat thing about that big of a number. Owen has been a part of all of lives, in one way or another, and in varying amounts. Whether through work, fundraising, family, business, boating, or otherwise, there is NO doubt in my mind that he has made you smile or laugh uncontrollably at more than one point in time. We have an opportunity to pitch in to something he'll never forget, never live down, and never stop smiling about... and we can present it together, at a milestone time in his life.

I won't be asking for a 'minimum' contribution, every single dollar will be appreciated and put to good use. I will say however, that I'm currently communicating with Vintage Wings about what size of contribution will be eligible for a 'taxable donation' receipt. Anyone interested in learning more about that side of the equation is encouraged to send me a reply to discuss.

Thanks in advance for all your help... Courtland
