Born in the south shore of Montreal, Yves was an accomplished athlete at an early age competing in track and fields at the provincial level in his teens.

His main athletic accomplishment however started at the age of 16 when he was recruited to be a quarterback for the University of Ottawa GeeGees Football club in the famed undefeated 1975 team.

In the team’s College Bowl game, starting quarterly Jim Colton suffered an injury at the start of the third quarter and Coach Gilbert send Yves in to finish the game and protect the lead.  Yves, as a French speaking 16 year old, went in cold and finished the game helping the team win it all.

Yves not only continued on as a quarterback with the team but graduated Suma Cum Laude in computer engineering and earned the Governor’s Gold Medal for having the highest Cumulative GPA in the entire university graduating class.

Throughout his very successful career in the technology industry, his always cherished his memories of the 1975 team and considered that experience as a defining moment of shaping him into the man he became.  He always wanted to give back to the GeeGees organization.

However, in 2014, he suffered a terrible battle with bacterial meningitis that saw him suffer three strokes while in a coma for 6 weeks.  He awoke severely disabled having lost of independence.  He passed from complication with pneumonia on February 7th 2019.

In his honour, his family has started the Yves Leclerc Fund with the goal of raising $20,000 annually for the GeeGees Football Organization in order to fund a tutoring and academic success program and to award an annual scholarship to the member of the football team with the highest academic average in the previous year.  This program will assist current students on the football team receive academic support to help them meet the require grades to stay in the program.

Yves was extremely committed to his academic performance and we believe that his legacy can live on by helping many future football players get the most out of their education.

Please join us on Thursday August 20th, 2020 at the Canadian Golf and Country Club and help us create a lasting legacy for future student athletes at the University of Ottawa GeeGees Football Club.
